Everybody Wants To Win, But Not Everybody Wants To Fight

Most people want to be in love. But most people don't want to fight for it. In America today over 50% of all marriages end in divorce, and in the Black community 75% of all households are headed by Black women. I know that each and every situation is different. But is seems as if people don't value love, or really know what it is to love. If they did, divorce wouldn't be the instant answer to problems in a marriage, and men wouldn't abandon their children, and their mothers because they would realize what an essential commodity their love is to their families. 

True love, real love, is worth fighting for. Regardless of the challenges, hurdles, and impediments that life can bring.

I know that many of my readers think of Black love as a romantic notion. But the fact of the matter is that Black love is not just about your husband, your wife, your lover, or your boo thang. It's also about your extended family. That special connection you share with those who have your DNA, your blood line, your ancestry, and your life long memories. These are the people who can tell you what it was like to change your diapers even though you're in your fourties now. These are the people who know you well enough to remind you who you are, what you are and where you're going.

The love of cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters is a different love than any other. Not a better love. But a different love because it was always there, and there is nothing you can do to stop it, change it, or block it.

A Good Day For Divorce?

Last Sunday was January 12, by far the most wonderful day of the year. It was a bright, sunny day. The sky was clear. We had a wonderful church service, and it was MY birthday. I spent each and every moment of it from sun up to sunset with my lovely wife by my side. So imagine my surprise when I found out that for some 1-12-2014 was a tragic day.

More couples will decided to divorce on January 12 than on any other day of the year, it is claimed.

Lawyers believe many couples whose marriages have reached a breaking point have stuck together over the past year as they calculated whether they could afford to go their separate ways when the economy has not fully recovered from the recession.

They predicted that many couples have stuck together for one last Christmas as a family then split up the week that their children go back to school.

Legal experts are expecting a record number of separating spouses in the New Year because the unemployment rate and the crumbling housing market are still struggling to recover in some parts of the country. This puts relationships under greater strain.

The end of any marriage is a tragedy, and an unending circle should never be broken. 

There is strength in unity, and triumph in perseverance. There is no reward in giving up. Remember why you fell in love.

3 Ways To Tell If You're Being Used

I write about black love for two reasons. Because I love black love and I am black and in love. But no matter who you are it is impossible to be in love with anyone until you learn how to love yourself.

The most important part of loving yourself is being able to recognize when someone doesn't love you the way you deserve to be loved. Unfortunately some people love what you can do for them, and not for who you are. Here are just a few reasons to tell if you are being used.

#1. They only call you when they need, or  want something. These people never call just to see how you feel or how your day was unless it's followed by a sob story to separate you from your hard earned money, precious time, and your sanity.

#2. They're never there when you're in crisis. Rain falls on the just and the unjust, and life is not perfect. When you're going through this person can't even provide so much as a comforting shoulder for you to cry on.

#3. When you ask for a favor either they won't do it, or they're not around for you to ask. You feel alone even when they're there.

T.L.C. (Tender Loving Care)

I'm lying here congested and in need of some TLC.

I barely open my eyes and you bring that red medicine to me.

I'm tired and I don't feel right, and I pray that I can get enough sleep tonight to feel good enough to go to work.

Love This Holiday

This holiday season many people are alone, without love, without peace, and without happiness. That's why it is important that we are thankful for the special people in our lives. Those select few who make each and every day worth living, and make each and every holiday much more precious.

Patience

It is arguably the most important part of a relationship. 

Patience by definition means,

The quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.

The ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay. 

There will be days when it feels like you have none at all, and others when you'll feel as if you have all of the patience in the world. When it comes to your mate it can be particularly challenging to deal with the ups and downs of a relationship.

So it is important to put patience in context. It is important to remember that as imperfect human beings we all require a certain amount of understanding. 

If you want your mate to be patient with you then you will have to be patient with them. Unless you aspire to be in a one sided relationship dominated by your needs, feelings, and emotions. 

One sided relationships never work.
